Hotlinking - Inline Linking Notice:
Please note that the practice often referred to as "hotlinking" or "inline linking"
is prohibited on this web server. The practice is a poor example of net-etiquette.
What this practice is:
The placement of an image or file located on this server into another web page not located on this server by directly linking to the image or file. When you do this, you are serving that image or file up on your own web site, but using my bandwidth to do it.
I realize I cannot stop you from placing one of my images in your site, but if you do it via this method, you will not be able to see the image displayed on your web site. I have turned off the ability for this to be done on my web server.
Of course I do not mind people putting up a link to my site. We all like to have visitors.
If you want to link to an image's web page you can do that. But please note, that it is better to link to the images web page and not the actual image.
You can even embed my image in your web page, (I cannot really stop you from doing it)
but I ask that if you do this, one have the courtesy to ask permission and say where you got the image. Two, host the image on your own server or a hosting company that allows this. There are lots of them out there.
More information on this practice can be found here at the Wikipedia entry for Inline Linking.
